Details like screw back, dial design, shock protection, serial number on the outside, and the German inscription "Wasserdicht" (waterproof) indicate that this watch was likely designed for the German army. However, the leading and trailing letters to the serial number according to the divison are missing (e.g.D and H). Thus the watch was likely used privately, and hopefully no further owner will destroy this uniqueness by adding these letters. With the careful waterproofing this watch even exceeded rhe common requirements. And last not least: "Chronometer" is nowhere written, but was present. Despite the not known service histpory the maximum deviation between positions of 16s/day is still not far beyond the present COSC limit of 10s/day, and a 78 years old Rolex will hardly outperform this.
