Fortissimo, sperlative of Fortis
An Automatic with shock device and water protected steel case was in deed a superlative in the fourties. It is well known that cooperation between Harwood, Fortis, and AS lead to the first automatics for volume production. The first results were Harwoods bumper and Fortis' Autorist, both brought to serial production with assistance of AS. So it is no wonter to meet the Fortis variant of the successor AS 1172 in this watch.
The movement still in top condition, and the dial with signs of aging, but no corrosion, prove the efficiency of the case design. Precisely this design was published on 02-28-1955 as Swiss patent no.Nr.305467 of the Roamer Watch Co., thus some 15 years after this watch left the factory. And in fact this case, which can be opened without tool and needing no gasket (except crown), is watchmaker's dream.
