|4011: Jacot Tool|
Accessories: wooden case
Details: brass, equipped for all common pivot diameters of watches, three brooches with groves from 0.02 to 0.3mm, covering pivot diameters from ca. 0.04 to 1mm .
Condition: case quite worn and locking hooks defect. Tool with obvious signs of usage, but not worn, one hole disk for rounding up pivot ends for the smaller diameters broken, else all parts present und usable without restrictions.
This tool is absolutely necessary for the professional repair of many old watches. It is by no means out of fashion, but still the most economical tool for burnishing worn pivots, and this although the price for a new sample is today some EUR 1700.00. All presently circulating samples from retiring watchmakers will soon have new owners, and in the near future none will be available for such ridiculous prices like today.
The hole discs for pivot rounding up, are extremely hardened, rather thin, and accordingly fragile. There are protection caps, but in many years one or the other bit will be dropped to the floor (with or without cap), and this will reliably kill the disc. Although this is usually not mentioned, it applies for many if not most Jacot tools. It was and still is possible to buy a replacement disc, but nobody did, because they are scarcely or never needed. There are simple and more efficient tools for rounding up, and last not least almost never pivots need to be rounded up within a service.
