While enhancing the preassure with the hand pump, the watch is hanging above the water. If the watch has a leak, in this time air will enter the case. If the watch is now plunged into the water (with still applied pressure) and the pressure is released through the valve on the cylinder cap, the probably entered air will escape again. With the rising bubbles it is not only noticable whether the case has a leak, but also where. Condition: no reasonable visual or technical flaws. Pump and valves recently cleaned and lubricated with silicone grease. This easy service should be repeated every 5 to 20 years depending on frequency of usage. Tester of this sort are still made by Bergeon, with 3bar operating pressure for ca. EUR 700.00, and with 10bar for ca. EUR 1100.00.
