Maybe the reason that everything is arraged head over heals. The movement description reads like a summary of all possibilities to make things not only different, but with expense also better. Remember that the direct second and the indirect minute became common for wristwatch about 100 years later (Miyota volume produced movements still wait for these features). And even crown winding was so extraordinary† in 1869 that additionally key operation was still offerd.
