The slim Molnia is hardly to distinguish from its many thick sisters, but the movement has still the dimensions of the Cortébert design. Here for comparison the nearly equivalent Cortebert 620. As movements of this family were applied by Panerai and Rolex, these finer variants of the Molnia movement are frequently used for according fakes. This should not be taken as recommendation, but rather as hint to keep eyes open regarding such watches.
МОЛНИЯ (= Lightning)
Transliterations: Molnia, Molnja, Molnija
Except the last few production years, when souvenir watches with lots of motives on dial and case were made, apparently not much happened in the production periode from 1947 to 2008. All watches look anyhow equal, and many believe that inside them also not much happened. But from the two basic variants of the Molnia calibres with 3.5mm and 4.65mm nominal height I know meanwhile 19 versions, and 13 of them I could already investigate on my table. Likely still some are missing, but surely not many. An overview about the details is presented here.
